i've been living in the same city for my whole life - it's lodz (łódź - polish spelling, you say it wooj)

it's a city since 1423 but it had a big boom in xix century - from about 5 000 occupants in the beginning of the century it ended with more than a million a century later. it used to had the biggest number of modern textile factories in whole europe (first steam powered engine was used here) and was called the weaven capitol of europe. it was also known also as a city of four cultures as many many people immigrated from around the world - apart from poles there were jews, germans and russian - all about the same number.

now there are about a million people living here, still third biggest polish city

because of the "boom" in xix century the whole city centre comes from xix - and it's really big!

here is the pic of the main street - piotrkowska
apart from the fact that it's full of buildings more than 100 years old in nearly all of them there are pubs - the part of the street where you can't drive your car is about 5 kms long and there are like 60 pubs there

and that's my very favourite pub - rooster i'm going there to watch 1st football polish league and drink some BEER

    12 cylinders or walk!

The Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metro area is the 3rd largest metro area in the state. We're not really famous for anything except our old steel mill that's been closed for years. A brief history of the mill, mainly its involvement in WW2. http://www.bethlehempaonline.com/steelgolden.html

As much as 70 percent of all airplane cylinder forgings, one-quarter of the armor plate for warships, and one-third of the big cannon forgings for the U.S armed forces were turned out by Bethlehem Steel. And the company was responsible for building nearly one-fifth of the U.S. Navy's two-ocean fleet.
Here it is in the 1970's. http://wnyheritagepress.org/photosof..._steellge1.jpg

And something a lot more recent.
    http://www.siahq.org/Images/lehighva...bethsteel1.gif

They're currently in the process of deciding what to do with the property. So far ideas have included community centers, malls, a movie theather, high-end hotels, and casinos.

Oh, and the Bill Joel song "Allentown" is actually about Bethlehem.

I live in Torrington, CT. It's incredibly boring, there isn't much to do. People on urban dictionary sum it up pretty good. http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...erm=torrington

Most of what torrington was mildly famous for has left. Torrington Company(bearings) and many other factorys have closed down. Thats about it.

Edit: Oh yea, I forgot about how Torrington is the birthplace of John Brown, the crazy abolitionist from the civil war.

and by that you are trying to say????

I think the point of this thread is to post something about your home town that can be interessting for others members to know.. In your case, New York, wich makes it harder for you to post something usefull and maybe unknown for the most of the users..
And I deffinately don't think the meaning of the thread was for every other member to brag about living in a posh nabourhood...
Do you like ferarriz by the way??

i live in a small town in the vally of Nova Scotia. its about an hours drive from Halifax, Biggest city in the Maritimes. (Canada by the way)

It has a population of about 20-30,000 people and is gowing all the time. Its the apple blossom capital of the maritime's and canada, i think!
Home of Acadia University (wolfville) which during class time makes our population soar. And i've noticed alot of Japanese and Chinese people around.

its a nice place to live... not the most exciting, but a nice place. Alot of stores and buisnesses. it consist's of Wolfville, Grande Pre, New Minas, Port Williams, and kentville and alot of other little towns. We get alot and i mean alot of tourists here. For a small place we get alot of traffic. Also Nova Scotia has the worst roads in Canada!

Its an interesting place thats for sure. you can look it up if you want.

I don't like to disclose my hometown. I will say that it's a 1x1 mile town with nothing exciting and a lot of drinking.

In Crewe (Cheshire, England), we have a factory for making Bentleys (it used to make Rolls Royces too) that was used to build the Merlin engine that powered the spitfire in WW2, there is a pristine example of one in the showroom. Right now it makes all kinds of Bentleys and they all get tested on the streets around the outside of the town. If you look at the factory from above, parts of it resemble rows of terreced houses, this was to confuse german bombers during the war.

Despite having a population of just 67,000, it has one of the largest railway stations in the north-west of england, with 12 platforms and direct rail routes to every major city in the country.

Crewe is twinned with Macon in France, Bischofsheim in Germany and Crewe crater on Mars (seriously!)

I live in a tiny village which basically has a church, railway station, post office and a shop. But around my village are loads of kit car builders such as Hawk Cars and Lynx cars.

I live in Queretaro, Mexico. It's Mexico's 4th indutrial city and the fastest growing. Over 300 multinational companies have set up shop here and 100 Italian companies have anounced plans to open factories here in the coming year.

It's also a beautiful colonial city and one of Mexico's oldest, 500 years old. Therefore, one of historical importance. Mexico's constitution was writen here.
