Where did I state that the car was sold from the showroom yesterday? And either way, production did not end until 1998.

IIRC he has to win 2 titles in-a-row right? If it wasn't for mistakes he could have gotten the keys this year!

In this economy I'm shocked. That's approx. $4.2M. I wonder if they only built 65 Ferrari F40s or Enzos how much they'd be worth?

The other thing I like is that when McLaren works with BMW the result is the F1, a car longed for by sports car lovers. When McLaren works with Mercedes-Benz they produce the SLR, a car longed for by Britney Spears and Paris Hilton as a way to show their crotches in front of photographers.

Anything known about the previous owner? Some of these are the same cars as Ralph Lauren has but I doubt they are because they would have made a bigger deal out of it if they were.

This car was previously in the possession of Automobil Manufactur in Singapore, and there is a chance it's never had an actual owner who's taken it home as his own. If there has been, it's an unknown one.

I noticed the English level of users on here has dangerously decreased since Quiggs began making drunken and/or lolcat threads...

You can still take a plane to Sao Paulo, buy tickets for the GP, throw stones at him until he crashes.

Or something.

I don't know what's more jaw dropping, the McLaren F1 or the price.

still. wonder if McLaren has kept the original blueprints/moulds.
I'm sure they keep everything related to the F1. After all, the company's headquarters will still do regular service & custom fitting for any new owner.

Probably, it is both the price and the car itself...

The McLaren is a very incredible car... tAlthough it has a little handling and gearbox issues, it doesn't changehe fact that it was a very great car... The McLaren F1 is the car that held the speed record for a number of years... Because of its achievements, it has earned its plce in automotive history... That's why it cost so much... You will not just drive an absolutely astonishing car, you're also driving a little piece of automotive history with it...

Don't be, the classic car market is the one thing doing very well indeed. Especially high-end - the super-rich feel very little of this "crunch"

1) It was only an engine deal, if i remember correctly. BMW did nothing but provide the engine.
2) Funnily, they weren't even first choice. McLaren wanted a Honda engine first anyway.

The SLR was actually a Merc as well as a McLaren, the F1 wasn't a BMW. Zonda anyone?

Ummm, no, they are not Jaguar XJ220's (Which as of a few years ago just sold their last new car.) All of the McLaren's were sold soon after they were built.

And as Street_Dreamer said, BMW only supplied the engine, and did nothing to build the car itself. Gordon Murray actually wanted to build the car to out do another car (A ferrari F40 if I remember right.) Then he drove a Honda NSX, and after driving the NSX, said he had a new benchmark of achievement to make with the McLaren. He went to Honda to supply the engine, but they did not meet his specs. Then along came BMW and not only made his specs, but they did better. He wanted to put a V8 or V10 engine (If I remember right.) In the car originally, but BMW came out with the V12 and it had everything Gordan wanted so he went with it.

That's how Gordon got the name for the McLaren. He was joking around and said they should call it the McLaren F1, because Ferrari had the F40 and McLaren was going to be 39 steps ahead of the Ferrari. So he said F1.
