At the upcoming Gooding & Co. The Amelia Island Auction three fabulous competition Porsches will cross the block. The earliest and rarest of the bunch is this ex-works 911 Carrera RSR Turbo 2.1. Fielded by the factory team during the 1974 season, this was the prototype for the upcoming 911 Turbo road and racing cars. Not homologated yet, it was raced in the prototype class at Le Mans and this car finished a remarkable second overall behind the winning Matra. With the sister car in the Porsche Museum, this represents a very rare opportunity and the RSR Turbo is estimated to sell for $6-8 million.
One of the Turbo's direct successors was the 934 of which a great example has been consigned to the sale. It was originally owned and raced by a Swiss enthusiast and subsequently saw action in the United States for many years. Chassis 930 670 0162 was one of very few such cars not modified to later specifications and has a pre-sale estimate of $1.2-1.6 million.
The newest of the trio of Porsche competition cars consigned is this Porsche 962C. It was acquired new by an American enthusiast, who entrusted it to Brun Motorsport to run in the 1990 and 1991 World Championship. Consigned by only its second owner, 962-160 could sell for over $2 million.
