You have obviously never driven (or rode in) a '66-'70 Fleetwood Brougham or '66-'76 limo or '67-'70 Eldorado, etc.Originally Posted by NAZCA C2

Some people (like me) love the big old cadys and other people like yourself like the new performance one's, just because they are old, big and under powered doesn't make them suck.Originally Posted by NAZCA C2
True... I prefer the comfort and roominess of the classic ones rather than pure speed of the new ones.Originally Posted by pAinTrAin
However, I wouldn't call the old ones underpowered (unless its the Cimarron or diesel Seville or mid-'80s full-sized Fleetwoods with the small 249-cu-in engine).
The fastest of the classics, like the '64 Sedan de Ville, '68-'70 de Ville and '68-'70 Eldos, could run mid-8 second 0-60 mph times, 22 second 0-100 mph times and low- to mid-16s for the 1/4 mile (in the upper 80s mph). This with a 5,000-lb curb weight and 2.94 economy gears (3.21 for the '64).

Diff'ret strokes for diff'rent folks. I like the classics and think the new ones suck.Originally Posted by NAZCA C2

I agree. The classic Caddys have the famous "boulevard ride;" the new ones don't.Originally Posted by jcp123

The classic ones were easily recognized as a Caddy; the new ones certainly aren't.
The classic ones had tons of metal and chrome; the news ones don't.
The classic ones had well-proven and reliable engines and drivetrains; the news ones... we'll have to wait and see but it would be hard to beat the longevity of the old ones.

Not only that, the early OHV Cad plants were favorites of 50's drag racers too...says who Cadillac doesn't have a performance reputation at all?
Ask anybody who's ever seen or driven a 331ci Cad-powered Allard...

Yeah, I almost forgot about drag racers using Cadillac engines.Originally Posted by jcp123

Yeah, they sure were. The guy who sold me the '70 Sedan de Ville said he also had an '89 Sedan de Ville. He said with the '89, he had to pull to the right lane on the freeways to let other cars pass when going up a hill; with the '70, he was passing everyone else!Originally Posted by pAinTrAin
That's one of several reasons why I would never buy a post-'76 Cadillac.
