was planned. But shows how good PD is at keeping promises.

I think thats why they havent announced a year to release it in.

no matter when it is they wont be able to keep it

Damage is going to be restricted to race cars.

It does exist. Perhaps you missed the Subaru rally car scene?

if it's restricted to race cars, or to only a number of selected cars, then it isn't featured enough to call it "the real driving simulator".

As a car maker, I'd prefer to see my cars damaged in a video game rather than riced or tuned (both in a video game or for real).

From the bussiness point of view, ricing/tuning is more profitable.

    not for the automaker though.
You can convince some morons their R34s could develop easily a safely a million horsepowers, but that's it, no one is going to tune an M3 because of GTx.
And obviously smashing the car isn't profitable, period.

Think of M packs and S-lines.

I don't see the people buying those packs playing GT5 or even any other video game. Just a minor part, like the 1-series' and A3s bought by young guys

I don't think the issue of brands not wanting its car seen damaged regards the 1 Series or the A3 though, but more likely the people from much more exclusive brands and cars. So, again, something I would tuned or would like to see tuned.

Road car: Track days, more relaxed driving even on track, babied...

Race car: used as a tool, performance over appearance, driven professionally to an inch of its life...

Not many people will trash their precious exotic on race tracks, so I take it GT is treating it as such....

Actually, if you think about it... the cars would usually get repairs, and the replacement parts gotta come from somewhere...

so they don't want damages on road cars. On purpose.
    Come on.
The game isn't simulating what I would do with my daily drive at a track day.
It's about races, with road cars or race cars, it doesn't really matter, especially to the 80% of the game's buyers.
If it was meant to simulate real racing experience from the average Joe point of view, wtf with 900 bhp tuned cars?!

Personally I couldn't give a rats-arse about damage modeling....they are hardly accurate most of the time, and they tend to be more cosmetic than functional, even in sim titles on PC they aren't great. In GTR series you bump into another guy and you get dented body work, lasttime I check you can't dent carbon fibre, they crack and shatter. People who wants it for visual kick, I drive from cockpit view, I can't see when my front is dented anyway. The only time I was really immerse with damage in a game is in a rally car title, and it seems they are doing that....

I would agree with this, but would suggest Burnout Paradise as an example of excellent damage modelling. You can pull some spectacular crashes in it.
