    alot of the cars being offered now are tuned just to hit 60 or 62 at top of 2nd gear, cuz as matra already mentioned a shift no matter how fast (unless its a semi auto) will take half a second give or take

    this is really bad for some cars since transmission ratios should be determined based on the engine instead of benchmark performance figures

    in the celica's case a 1-2 upshift drops you BELOW the rpm at which the 2nd camshaft kicks in for power

    lol matra thats not true at all. he loses 0.5 seconds of acceleration but he's still rolling forward with momentum

    If he didn't have to shift, the time would be .5 seconds quicker, but since he has to shift, he is .5 slower if he didn't have to shift.

    I meant off the 0-60 time.
    During the shift the car is NOT accelerating so it slows down slightly during the change - which takes a finite time - and then has to accelearte back UP to the speed it was doing before the change. It's about 1/2 second on a 5 to 8 sec car.
