yeah they do tend to have some issues with internal space in certain models of Antec cases but this one was given the update with the 900-2. Its just a shame its aesthetically a lot less appealing than the original. Which is why i chose to still go for it. As far as fan cooled cases go, its still right at the top. With its 5 90mm fans and the huge vacuum fan on the roof. I'm still not trusting enough to go watercooled. So this will do just fine..

'rik I'm gonna steal your idea and build a pc piece by piece over a couple of months. Will seem less expensive and much less agravating if I only have to worry about 1 or 2 parts at a time. Never built my own rig before

I did that twice, build them over a period of 3 months the first time and 2 months the second, every parts I bought were on sale.

Can't provide numbers but I saved plenty, plenty of Benjamins.

Should make it a group effort. I'm planning on doing that, too.

Yeah, I'm gonna need some help from people on this site -- advice, build tips, compatibility, etc

Give us a budget to work with, what you want to do mainly (gaming, internet browsing (read: porn and 4chan), multimedia, workstation, etc.) and we should sort this out.

Budget over a few months: $900-1100

What I want to do mainly: It doesn't necessarily have to handle FarCry at 100 FPS but if a good pc game comes out that requires a solid machine to handle it, I want to be able to play it. I deal with a lot of multimedia but that will probably be covered if it'll handle higher-end pc games. To put it simply, I want a higher-end rig, not a top-of-the-line "holy shit guys check out my spec sheet overclockeddddd!!" computer

What I was thinking, just a rough sketch of this I guess:

    - Quad-Core processor, last I cared I preferred AMD over Intel but I can definitely use some advice in this department
    - 8 GB RAM, should I go DDR3 (not sure of the prices) or am I OK going with ddr2?
    - HDD I think I'll go with 2 drives. The primary being 160 GB, or 320 depending on how the budget works out but must be a high speed drive. I forgot the exact speed but I think they run at 9600 RPM? (versus 5400 IIRC) The secondary drive will prob be 500GB or so and will only serve as storage space. I also have a 750 GB external sitting around collecting dust
    - Video Card/Sound Card I would like to be on the higher-end of the spectrum, again.. not top of the line but something that offers good bang for my buck. My limit for video/sound cards would probably be $300 combined.
    - Drives aren't too important. I guess 2 5.25" disc drives and a multi-whatever its called bay with card readers and such. Forgot the name of it. DVD-RW necessary, was thinking about BluRay but I'll hold off on that.
    - Motherboard I'm pretty much clueless on and will definitely require some help with
    - Peripherals like mouse/keyboard/monitor/speakers/printer/webcam I'm ok with, already have most of those to begin with.
    - Operating system will be Windows 7
    - I'll need help with buying cables, fans, thermal gels, and such

Yep, I guess that's all. I don't want to bottleneck anything so all parts should be pretty equal in their respective level of performance

    Cheers

Pretty much this. Except I hate AMD (long story, still holding a grudge) and I really don't need more than 200GB total. I never seem to use much and it's always wasted space.

I built my current PC, but I did it all at once because I wanted it NOW. Or.. THEN. You know what I mean.

I think the same way, but I guess it's good for future proofing especially with the boom in high-def/bluray and internet2? with speeds that will increase tenfold. I see much higher data rates and storage in the next 5-10 years so it can't hurt to have a TB of space.

Wanting something 'NOW' used to hurt my wallet quite a bit. Then I made a rule. If I want something I look at it but then leave it and mull it over in my head for a week. After that week, if I still want it then I can buy it. Usually you'll forget what you even wanted though.

That's probably a good point. I'm just having issues with money at the moment and was thinking to save some where I could. It wouldn't be an issue if I hadn't made another trip to the emergency room. Then I'd have $3,000 for this thing.

Pretty good so far. All the banker buddies recommend it because Ari is their idol. Some sort of Gordon Gekko knock off... I don't see it.
