Can't be arsed with quoting everyone so...

- Squared-off steering wheels: No, thank you. Fitting it to your stupid Audi A3 diesel automatic is not going to improve it.
- Paddles: If you've bought an auto you clearly have no interest in driving whatsoever and changing gear is therefore redundant. So paddles are redundant too.
- Buttons: Some on the steering may be useful like volume/seek track or radio station as well as those from the cruise control. But they are not mandatory for me. Profusion of buttins on the dashboard is not only annoying but dangerous too. And gets on my nerves.

From what I've heard, Tesla axed the cheapest version of their Model S, which would have been relatively attainable.

Fisker is so dead right now it's not even funny.

As far as rats go...I like rats, BUT specifically building them that way in the name of being traditional is a farce. Most of the cars from "back in the day" which looked like that, looked like that out of necessity. Prewar cars were driven through the rationing of WWII and were basically beaten to a pulp by the time returning GI's started souping them up. They put together the mechanicals first and as money allowed they would then make their car look good. I hope as more folks learn the true history of hot rod culture that this might subside.

BUT...a good patina is a different story altogether.

Typical national macro-economic movements when the lower/middle income group are squeezed.
In other nations you'd also add that they were moving to using public transport .... but I've tried that in the US and it's not that viable

Well, the thing is their car sales figures are increasing (much like UK's).

Unlike here, where we just stage Mercedes-Benz model launches and test drives and nothing else because no one can afford to buy... a bycicle.

It's viable in only a few places...Chicago, San Francisco, New York. Otherwise, don't even bother.

There's a small trend towards ToD, or Transit Oriented Development. Pockets of this can be seen in Denver, the SF Bay Area, and Portland, OR, where new, middle-density and/or mixed-use developments are being clustered along already-existing public transit corridors.
