Ferrari 458 Italia Vs McLaren MP4-12C

As they are direct rivals, have similar performance and virtually the same price i though it would be a good idea to compare them. If you had a chose which one would you have.

Ferrari-458_Italia_2011_800x600_wallpaper_03.jpg

Ferrari 458 Italia - Technical specifications

3.5L V8
562 bhp
0-60 3.4
Top speed 202 mph
Price £169,000

McLaren-MP4-12C_2011_800x600_wallpaper_02.jpg

McLaren MP4-12C - Technical specifications

3.8L twin turbo V8
592 bhp
0-60 3.3 (or 3.1 with PZero Corsa tyres)
Top speed 205 mph
Price £168,000

If i had the chose i would have the Ferrari 458 Italia, the McLaren MP4-12C may be better but the Ferrari 458 seems more fun.

I forgot to tick the option box for a poll, so it's too late, unless a moderator wants to put one in for me, if that’s the case they are welcome to.

I prefer the Skoda Fabia 1.6 TDi.

There you go.

EDIT Can please some mod make it feature in the poll?

I picked the Mclaren because of the novelty factor.

But I'd pick the Skoda in a heartbeat.

IN A HEARBEAT I TELL YOU.

I selected the 458 for two reasons:
1) I'm a Ferrari fan.

2) It's certainly the better looking of the two cars.

That being said the reviews of the McLaren are excellent and Ferrari's new trend of putting as many controls as possible on the steering wheel seems ridiculous. I also think one of the flaws of the 12C is that it's very colour sensitive; it looks great in the medium blue they've shown it in as well as the metallic black, it looks horrible in silver.

I pick the F1 LM, but for now the 458 will do and I will wait to see what Mclaren does in the near future.

In terms of looks, for reasons unknown to even I, when next to each other the Ferrari seems to come out the winner, but by it's own the McLaren is superior.

Ferrari has it's own novelty factor too but that's not the reason i picked it. Gotta go with looks and it's one of my dreams to own a prancing horse

Before, it used to be a simple Decision, when the 2 big names in this class were the F430 and the Gallardo. Now it's become impossibly difficult to choose. I agree with aiasib about the McLaren; it is a novelty thing, but you really can't ignore the Ferrari's looks.

Will need to hear more about the McLaren before any solid judgement can be made imo.

A couple of weeks ago I saw the two of them together at Goodwood which resulted in a.o. these shots. As a direct comparison, I think the front and rear end of the McLaren are a bit busy with all sorts of black grills, the sides of both cars are different as the McLaren uses large air intakes, whereas the Ferrari has a clean piece of metal. The roof line of the two is totally different and I personally prefer the extended side windows of the McLaren over the uptapering small ones of the Ferrari.
Between the two it is a close call from the aesthetics side, and I think I would be very happy having either one of them.

I had a ride in a GTR and getting in the 3 seonds 0-60 range with full launch control is quite something else....

I know this isn't the point of what's going on, but I'd take a Porsche GT2 RS over either of these.

It may not be as glamorous or have the same widespread appeal to a lot of people, but it's what I'd prefer. If I was going to own a car in this category it would only be for short bursts of sporadic use so I take the one I thought best.

I see your point, but I'm not sure a GT2 RS ls better for sporadic use. In fact it may be the better every day choice. Where I do definately agree with you is that there is no correct choice and you should go with what feels right.
