BaT Exclusive: California Barn Stash - 5/2009
I'm just an oldhustler trapped in a hotrodders world
I have been doing so much with so little for so long I can do anything with nothing.

its always so depressing to see cars rotting away like that. although a lot of those look like the body is in good enough shape to potentially one day be restored. i doubt the engines are going to be capable of that though.
Honor. Courage. Commitment. Etcetera.
How come there are so many of the car barns out there? This must be the third or fourth car barn discovered since a year ago.
It's as if it's a phenomenon...how come?
Looks more like a scrap yard to me. My scrappy up the road looks exactly the same but with less American cars and more British ones.

PINGAS!!!!
this is a scrap yard
I just don't get how they end up abandoned. Do the people build these collections and never get around to restoring/selling? Do they die and the heirs never knew about the barn? Or do the heirs just not care and leave it? Even if you weren't into cars someone might buy some of that stuff just for scrap. These are the types of places Jay Leno swoops in and tries to find old gems to restore.
Jay Leno isn't in the entertainment business for the entertainment. he's in it for the cars.

A year or two ago I saw a '63 and a '65 Riv on the way to Baker sitting out in the desert and on the verge of crumbling.
****in' heartbreaking.
Needless to say, these sort of things always depress me.
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"
That's okay. I'm sure Jay Leno is interested in at least one of them.
Plus, it is in California, after all.
I agree 100% ScionDriver. It really ticks me off why people don't do anything when it comes to situations like this. If they don't care about them, don't want them, their not into cars, etc. etc. Why not sell them to someone who does want them?
There are car collectors/ restorers everywhere, so it wouldn't be too hard to sell them. But no, they'd rather them sit in a building and rot away! Makes absolutely no sense to me. If I had that garage, I would love to keep them but I don't have the money, time to fix them up. So I would be finding ways to sell them to those that do have the money, time to fix them up. I would rather someone have them to fix them, then to rot in my garage.
The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you.
