Can The Ultimate Ferrari Have a V8?

Can The Ultimate Ferrari Have a V8?

I was reading glowing praise for the F40 LM on this site where it was described as "the ultimate Ferrari." Now I love the F40/288 GTO, but in my heart I have a problem with that notion based on my personal feeling that no car can be considered the ultimate Ferrari without a V12.

I don't think having a V12 should have any affect on whether not a car is the greatest thing a manufacturer has produced.

IMO, Ferrari has already shown it doesn't need 12 cylinders to have the ultimate Ferrari when it produced the TT V6 F40, and N/A V8 of the 430S.

    TT V6 F40???

Anyway, no the number of cylinders does not need determine what is the ultimate Ferrari or what not.

I never said there was anything wrong with the F40, but there's a long way to go to ultimate . . .

It is what you consider it is to be
    (subjectively verifiable)

Ferrari has made wonderful 4 and 6 cylinders too. If equal power can be made with less weight then I would pick the v8. My only reservation would be missing the wonderful music of the v12, but I certainly wouldn't loose any sleep for nostalgia's sake.

Hey, I consider the four cylinder 860 Monza to be one of the greats.

121 LM was sort of a bust - powerful but ineffective. Ferrari won a LOT of races with four cylinder cars.

And if you think back to Villa d'Este 2007, the sound of that that 860 Monza even drowned out the V12s.

I dunno if i would go so far as to say the 6cylinders were wonderful...mediocre at best perhaps.

out of curiosity what 4cylinders did they make?
