And it will look stupid next to the 1310kg masterpiece from the 50's.

No. The 7 speed double clutch gearbox is integrated in one box together with the limited slip dif. They'd have to design another one with a manual box in it.

And AMG + manual gearbox ? I don't think so. Unfortunately.

I've got the latest Auto Bild with pictures (renders?) of the SLS in it in front of me. Looks absolutely amazing IMHO.

As for the latter, well, there just was the Carrera GT and BMW isn't so much about the pure sportscars.

However, I would like to see BMW develop a sportscar a la the Z4 but one contesting say, F430s, Gallardos, etc, as well as a full on supercar above that. How economically viable this is especially now is a strong matter of contention for BMW brass however.
Its like in the mid-90s when they wanted to create an M8 version of the 8-series. It used the S70 V12 that went on to power the McLaren F1 but the brass killed it because they didn't see a market for it.

Haven't they built manuals (or sequential manuals at least) for racing and so forth? Doesn't seem like much of stretch for them to make one for a road car.

In Europe many Mercs can have manuals.

did the AMG SLK have a manual? no excuse there.

supposedly the stick in the new C Klasse is the best one they have made in decades, and you can get it anywhere MB is sold (even the US).

I doubt they have actually. The only racing MBs that I can think of is the DTM and the F1 cars, and both of those have pure racing gearboxes thats not made by MB....

All C-Class except the 350 and the AMG and all 4 cylinder engined E-Class.

Altough I agree, AMGs should be manual, no excuse.

Does it have anything to do still with the Viper?

It never had anything to do with the Viper, except that some of the early development mules were disguised using modified Viper bodywork (which they could do, because it was still DaimlerChrysler back then).

There are a very limited number here too but they are all for the C-class with 4 or 6 cylinder motors not for a V8 with 500+ hp
