Citroen motorsport boss Guy Frequelin has admitted that he'd like to give Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo class winner Kris Meeke a test in the team's Xsara WRC. Meeke - a protégé of 1995 world champion and former Citroen driver Colin McRae - took the first victory in the Junior World Rally Championship class for the Citroen C2 last weekend.

Meeke has steadily improved his results in the Junior WRC class over the past two years, finishing 11th in the points in 2003 and then seventh in the points in 2004. Last year he switched to the new C2 from the Opel Corsa Super1600 for the final round of his campaign and has continued with the car this year, and is run by Citroen satellite team Kronos Racing with backing from the McRae family.

"Kris has done a good job on this event," Frequelin told Autosport magazine this week. "He has shown himself to be very fast and consistent. I have no problem with Kris coming and doing some endurance testing in the Xsara. We will give him a chance, but he doesn't have enough experience to be doing any comparison tests."

Meeke was also praised by reigning world champion and lead Citroen driver Sebastien Loeb. "It's good to see him come here and win in the C2," Loeb said. "This is a very specific rally - one of the trickiest in the championship - so he must have driven well and had good notes to do it."

Double world champion Carlos Sainz, who retired from the sport last year, has also confirmed that he will continue to be involved in the development of the team's cars this year. "He has great experience which will be very useful for the team," said Frequelin.
