Sorry if I cannot express myself correctly, but I don't know English as good as I want, so my answers will probably be the same in many cases.

What happened? Why did he stop? A sudden (some type of) engine failure perhaps?

Toyota suffered transmission problems with 90 minutes to go, leaving Eddie Irvine to finish 2nd in his 94C-V

Don't know to be frank. Just copy-pasted what Wikipedia said.

Guess that a really knowledgeable person must contribute on this.

haven't seen the vid, but the rule mandates that unless he is in the pit, only driver can work on the car. I think you can bring tools to him though. Back in the old days its not unusual design requirement for the engine cover to be made light enough for a single person to lift up, and old cars used to have spare tires and tool kits on board....

Some of the cars still carry rudimentary tool kits at Le Mans. I don't think drivers can use anything handed to them by the mechanics to aid in the repairs.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.
