Audi considering mid-engine layout for next-gen TT?

Audi's next-generation TT may be getting a significant re-design, with a mid-engine placement if the swirling speculation around the Internet is it true guys?.Now in its second-generation, the TT sits on Volkswagen's PQ35 platform (shared with the Volkswagen Eos and Tiguan) meaning customers are offered a front-engine chassis with a front- or all-wheel drive powertrain..

I think in terms of market segment it'll be closer to a Clio V6....

Would be pretty interesting, and would also be the first non-supercar Audi(R8) with proper weight distribution....

I kind of doubt Porsche will allow it, but stranger things have happened.

Not so sure it will appeal to quite the same type of buyer the current TT attracts, seeing how it will have less stowage space, but that may not be such a bad thing.

In terms of outright sales numbers though, I don't necessarily think it's a good idea. From an enthusiast's point of view though, I hope the rumors are true.

I see it competing with the likes of the Porsche Boxster and perhaps offering better performance. Don't see it happening.

I knew those sentences were too well-written by Qman to be true.

I'm sorry, but you called me an ass not too long ago, so here's my response to that.

Now, regarding the mid-engined TT, I think it's absolutely badass if they decide to go through with it.

A Alto Mk.3 with 4 passengers and a spare wheel in the back is also exactl 50:50 Long live school assignments, with amazing outcomes !

Anyway I don't think it is any more than a rumour. The development costs would be much higher and the market segment it is in, is not that looking for a bad-ass sportscar.

More like Cayman/Boxster. And I don't see it happening, too close to Cayman/Boxster and probably why change a winning receipe as far as profits are concerned?

Nothing wrong with a baby R8. I don't see it happening, if Porsche acquires VW/Audi, but hey, who am I to complain? Besides, if it comes with AWD and enough power, it'll be different than the Boxster. Plus, it doesn't have to be called a upmarket less practical VW Golf anymore, now that we have the Scirroco, or however you spell that confounding that segment further.

Tell that to Cayman owners. I know a few, and none of them seem to complain about a lack of space... but then, none of them are hair-dressers either.

I've heard the Cayman can be quite spacious, considering the large flat spot near the rear window...

i don't see it happening, going mid-engined would mean switching markets and then there would be the developement costs
i dont see it happening unless there's going to be VW stablemate and that sounds unlikely

Well considering that it's a hatchback, it probably isn't so bad.

And then you have the space between the headlights, plus the little bit between the two seats and the engine.

I'm sure if you try hard enough anything will fit.

so that would explain its fantastic cornering speed, running circles around any Porsche that you can think of.
