The second generation RDX was revealed on January 9, 2012 at the North American International Auto Show going on sale in April 2012. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine was replaced by a 3.5-liter Earth Dreams V6 mated to a 6-speed automatic, improving gas mileage to an EPA estimated 20/28/23 mpg (city/highway/combined) by using variable displacement (VCM). The SH-AWD system will be replaced with a simpler and less costly AWD setup.
For convenience, handles behind the second row of seats are designed to when pulled, release the backs of the seats to automatically fold down and create more storage room. A 5-inch display, tri-angle back-up camera are standard, as well as keyless entry with push button start. Also standard Bluetooth hands free calling and Pandora music can be streamed wirelessly through the sound system. When upgrading to the Technology package, a powerlift tailgate is now included, along with an upgraded 60GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) based navigation system with 8-inch screen, this system enables 15GB of music to be stored.
Note: In China, the RDX is offered with two engines. A J30Y1 3.0L SOHC i-VTEC V6 producing 263HP@ 6,700RPM and 220LB-FT@ 4,600RPM or a J35Y 3.5L SOHC i-VTEC V6 producing 273HP@ 6,500RPM and 254LB-FT@ 4,400RPM. Both engine choices come with either FWD or AWD.
