If you know anything about Colani, his intent was to mimic natural forms. He did this because he believed that the most efficient designs were those produced by evolution. So, in saying that it looks like an insect you are paying him due credit. He would thank you for recognizing his motivations.

(Maybe your dislike of his design has more to do with a dislike of insects themselves..?)
