Don't forget that Porsche is coming back in 2013.

Thanks for the videos guys. Not sure why, but I didn't really hear the electric motor or regen happening except when he was in the pits.

You won't hear those anyway....not over open header and a 10k rpm V8....This will work like KERS in F1....

It does do wonders for packaging doesn't it, the Acura rear suspension is something else, the way they put the dampers inside the Engine/Gearbox casing.
Torsion suspesnions garnered many accolades for Chrysler from the late 50s through into the 70s. Great ride + above-par handling. Didn't know there were packaging advantages too, why did it go away? Seems like a triple crown.

They work well in race car packaging as the cars don't have that much wheel travel, and with rockers they can be sized quite well. In road car, for the amount of wheel travel needed and the desired rate, I don't think they package as well as a regular spring....

Matra used torsion and VERY effective and much better "Packaged" than any alternative spring.

EXCEPT. You ahve to have a damper somewhere and on a street car the space of a damper with enoguh movement is the same space for a spring so if you can accomodate one you nca manage both So the Matra has a damper where you woudl have had a coil-over for the same space and no need for torsion.

Race cars using bell cranks change the packaging significantly and with tiny movements then a torsion bar often acts as a pivot point as well as a suspension control.

when the engine kicked on, it sounded like a bomb went off. Wow.

That spine fin is (as I understand) part of regulations from 2011 to make the cars faster through aerodynamics with the smaller engines. I believe they went the same route in F1
