    NOTA:
what makes you think this M5 ute wont cut it with the best aussie has to offer?

No....gricey's daughter is on the money. bravery is not required.

would you prefer a run of the mill SS/XR8 over this M5?

Well .. didn't 'Wheels' in their Nordschliefe comparo find that the VX HSV GTS was superior in dynamics and performance to this model M5? So I'm thinking if an old-gen Commodore sedan bests this model of M5 sedan, then is it unreasonable to suspect the much-improved 2008 VE Maloo (suitably optioned) might do likewise against a tricked up old-gen M5?

I'd certainly prefer either a half-price '08 Maloo bruiser or quarter-price SS/XR8 .. (plus the cash difference of course!) .. to a mega $$ 'prototype' BMW ute with a useless tray

I guess the concept just doesn't grab me because I'd also prefer Darryl Beattie's VC Valiant ute powered by an all-alloy 'Indy' big block.

Seen it? Its a beast. Speaking of which, even Gricey's daughter would be impressed

Rare and exotic. Up for discussion.

Your perception of rare and exotic is different from mine.

I adore the M5. Its freaking amazing. It is stylish yet fast at the same time. Without being ostentatious. Awesome sleeper car. Doing this is absolutely against my wishes.

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion.

it makes M5 lighter and more individual, probably more fun too, how is that killing it?
    lol..'best'
M5 was born a sedan. It stays that way. See above.

Same. I like the fact that he's not doing it half assed. He's putting work into it, not some hick who wanted to extend the trunk of an M5 and call it a day. At least he's doing it properly. Although I still don't agree to him cutting up a perfect M5.

All in all, I hope to own one one day.

mmmm i as much as the VE HSV may have improved(i think they claimed the VE not VX) it was a fairly biased review in my opinion. And im preety sure, correct me if im wrong it wasnt the M5 i thought it was the 530 or somethin but anyway each to his own. If price was no issue and you wanted a performance ute the M5 would turn a few heads i reckon.
Cant deny the maloo tray is fairly useless as well 500kg max i think
    I'll look up that valiant

None of this makes it rare or exotic.

Rare = not many of something. There's plenty of E39 M5s about.

Exotic = 1. of foreign origin or character; not native; introduced from abroad, but not fully naturalized or acclimatized: exotic foods; exotic plants.
    2. strikingly unusual or strange in effect or appearance: an exotic hairstyle.
    3. of a uniquely new or experimental nature: exotic weapons.

An E39 M5 is none of those things.

I didn't know I knew who you are for you to be stating that we are "still cool". So...who are you?

I have many admires and many fans wishing to be cool with me. I'm sorry, I'm so popular...it is impossible for me to know everyone.

So... I don't think it's that hard to remember your mom, dad, brother, sister, dog, and cousin.
