All-electric Porsche Taycan revealed and new hybrid Lamborghini Sian ...

Many years of teasing with an accelerated campaign of sneak peaks has led to today's reveal of the all-electric Porsche Taycan. Showcasing the company's new direction, it is the German manufacturer's first ever all-electric car. Not to alienate the current clientele, the range-topping model will be dubbed Turbo S even though there is no induction, let alone forced induction of any kind on the car. It does offer the performance that matches the badge with a combined 751bhp available for its two electric motors on 'overboost' with the launch control engaged. At the market launch, the Taycan will also be available in the 670bhp Turbo version.
At the upcoming IAA in Frankfurt, Lamborghini will unveil this limited-production Sian. It is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine but benefits from a mild hybrid system that is powered by a supercapacitor, which is unique for this application. The electric motor is connected directly to the gearbox and adds 34bhp to the total out of 807bhp. Considering the addition of an electric motor, the Sian name is appropriate as it means 'flash' or 'lightning' in a local Bolognese dialect.

    Understated hilarity Wouter.

It will be fascinating to see how this car does. This is a big litmus test for the "legacy" (ahem) manufacturers.

I was really looking forward to the Taycan, but when the car starts at $150,000, that's a tough pill to swallow. That's more than twice the price of most Teslas, and you're also dealing with a more primitive or worse, nonexistant charging ecosystem. I think outside of making this a nice city cruiser, it's not really practical for longer trips.

    Hilarious indeed.

On the other hand an electric Smart car with 82bhp is still ver 20 grand.

    Bugger.

That's because it isn't the Smart ED Turbo S.

Ironically, at least they've given the recently facelifted Smart electric car a bigger grille than the ICE Smart car.

    Or perhaps, not so ironically.

You guys in Europe still get the Smart car? They discontinued all of them here on this side.

We do, albeit electric only from now on I think.

They are rubbish (the ICE ones, I do not have experience with the EV version).

Oh yes, the ICE Smart cars were ironically always terrible with gas even though they were absolutely tiny. High 20 MPG is not hard to get in newer crossovers and sedans. I'm not surprised they were discontinued here.

I managed about 38mpg in mostly careful driving with occasional 80mph blasts on the motorway.
