    no they didn't?

eh 3.5L seems fine to me, if you've tried it in a 335i

even so it doesn't seem like a bad thing. the old E24 M635csi for example, that was a 3.5L engine?

    BMW x35i are 3.0TTs though..

But yes, nowt wrong with a big I6.. just ask any 60s Jaaaaag fan. Also, Ford's 4 litre turbo I6 is supposed to be pretty solid, yes? Better than the V8 that's on offer anyway.

Slightly off topic, but Porsche does use 3.8 flat 6s right?

So to you guys, that's pretty massive right?

Although to Porsche's credit, they do use turbos.

Europe builds all the nice cars, but you guys drive the bitch versions of them, while we in North America drive the ballin' versions. Off hand, I think I see more 335i coupes than I see 328i coupes.

    Eurofail.

North America - specifically the States - is the land of cheap cars. And even we in Canada get to buy all the nice German shit you guys do but the cost of buying and running them is cheaper.

Carrera S and GT3/GT3RS use a normally aspirated version of the 3.8 litre flat six.

And yet you drive them at 65mph in four lane wide straight motorways.

I think 85 would be more accurate most places. And at least we do use all the power accelerating.

I remember an interview with a Porsche R&D engineer, stating they couldn't go much over the 4 liters mark with a flat 6. Didn't say why.

IIRC some tuning house had gone up to 4,5 litres with Porsche's flat six engine. I don't know if they were very reliable though.

The tuning world is a different story though. Other than reliability, you have to wonder about the different parameters in a tuned car or a standard Porsche. Reliability, fuel consumption, emissions, noise, vibrations, without even considering facts as the economical sense. A tuner has few options, enlarging the engine or swapping a larger one. perhaps for an automaker it makes more sense to design a different engine, on the long term.

Can't remember and can't find it...

The 9ff GT9 has a 4 litre flat six though.
