iirc, we or I foresaw that, as a KFL underground plan to revive nordic madness.
About GM...it can't be worst than now, so I'm quite happy something is finally happening.
Then everything could go wrong, it's a possibility. If today or veeery soon they don't fill C11, it's a certainty.

I'm a bit surprised that basically in what is the biggest car news story since UCP has been around (is this an exaggeration?) there are little to no responses about todays events. Maybe because it's been floating around so long? Or maybe UCP is just a slower place these days like Werty selfishly said. Maybe we've already beaten it to a pulp I dunno.
The General is bankrupt. What do you think is their future? Will they thrive and survive or will they wilt and die?
EDIT: I'd generally call myself an advocate of cleaning up the environment, and maybe even a leftist, but th is made me almost laugh in how stupid it was.
Read Michael Moore's manifesto on what should be done with GM. This man seems completely out of touch with reality.

What can we say that hasn't been said already?

Visca Catalunya!
Mass Private Equity then leads to private sales of those equities which then leasd to short-selling those equities and gues what back to where you are TODAY !
It's a shame that anything for the "common good" in the US always gets stuck with a SOCIALZM tag and everyone runs to hide.
To build car productino back up to where it was woudl be lunacy ... so... what DO you do with all those plants ?
Nobody can get loans to do conversions so it really does need government led incentives to push old car factories into new opportunities and MOST importantly that those new toolings are there to provide sustainable construction. So trains and buses make more sense than cars .... AND by committing to a major conversion it will be very quick that US manufacturing's skills will develop world leading solutions.
What's the alternative ? Let it bleed to death slowly, sticking plasters on every few years ?
Meanwhile other nations not afraid of the governmnetn leading productino and capitalism will become those who manufacture all the things you want in 10 yeras more efficiently, with more intellectual property making the barrier for US growth even higher.
Mass Private Equity is pretty much how the UK bike industry tried to recover from the impact of problems in the UK manufacturign back in the 60s. So they all were passed from pillar to post, merging, selling, take-overs till it finally died. MIND YOU the way the UK did things back then a "nationalised bike industry" woudl lilely have been as effective as British Leyland were
Thanskfully the lessons are written to be followed to be successful. Look at the emergance of PSA ( Renault Peugeot Citroen ) as a major manufacturer from mass producing cheap and nasty cars in the 60s. THAT is wha tgovernmnet lead capitlaism can achieve
Try it lads, it might not taste as bad as the bogeyman warnings suggest
Say goodbye to the economy then. GM's too large to let fall on its arse, theres too many consequences that could lead to the next depression.
Plenty of people have said its the death of GM, GM are gone, bla bla GM. Clearly, GM are still around. They still will be around. I dont know if they'll still call themselves GM however.

I believe he's playing typical-Ferrer devil's advocate.
Can't we just not call it socialism to appease the masses?
Stupid pundits who use "socialist" as a synonym for "asshole" have marred that word in America's eyes, but I say a bit of regulation would be nice. (I personally do not fear the "s" word).
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"
